CONFETTI CASCARONES
No one is sure if this tradition came from Renaissance Italy or
Mexico's Empress Carlota, but it sure is fun to crack confetti-filled
eggshells on the heads of unsuspecting family members. Start saving
egg shells a week before Easter so you are sure to have enough. Tap
the narrow end gently and break an opening about the size of a dime
or a nickel. Empty the contents into a bowl to use later and clean
the inside of the shells with lightly running water. Let them dry and
decorate them with paint, markers, or some traditional egg dyes. When
completely dry, use a funnel to fill them with confetti and seal the
end with a bit of colored tissue paper, using a brush to paint on
watered-down glue. Be sure and have your camera ready to capture the
fun this delightful Easter tradition will create as every family
member takes a crack at it.
EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA
For most of us, Easter is not Easter if you don't decorate eggs. This
year, instead of letting the kids have all the fun, start a tradition
that involves the whole family. Throw an annual Easter egg decorating
contest. Choose plenty of categories so everyone has a chance to win.
Some great categories might be: funniest egg, most original egg,
scariest egg and celebrity egg. The wackier the categories, the more
fun you'll have decorating and judging. Ask everyone to submit an egg
for each category and display the eggs for all to see on the dining
room table. You can ask Grandma and Grandpa to be the judges, or
invite some neighbors or friends over to do the honors. Before you
know it everyone will want to enter the contest.
