Simple ideas and traditions to help strengthen family
ties
Easter
CONFETTI
CASCARONES
No
one is sure if this tradition came from Renaissance Italy or Mexico's
Empress Carlota, but it sure is fun to crack confetti-filled eggshells
on the heads of unsuspecting family members. Start saving egg shells
a week before Easter so you are sure to have enough. Tap the narrow
end gently and break an opening about the size of a dime or a nickel.
Empty the contents into a bowl to use later and clean the inside
of the shells with lightly running water. Let them dry and decorate
them with paint, markers, or some traditional egg dyes. When completely
dry, use a funnel to fill them with confetti and seal the end with
a bit of colored tissue paper, using a brush to paint on watered-down
glue. Be sure and have your camera ready to capture the fun this
delightful Easter tradition will create as every family member takes
a crack at it.

Saint Patrick's Day
THE GREAT GREEN GALA Start with breakfast
and make the entire day green. Have green
scrambled eggs with green juice, or green pancakes with green syrup.
For lunch, make green sandwiches with green Jell-O or pudding, green
grapes and green milk. Prepare an all green dinner with green mashed
potatoes, or rice along with some green soup or pasta. Get creative
and make sure that the entire day is green! Your festive dinner will
only be served to those who are dressed appropriately, head to toe,
all in green! Each year the outfits your family or friends dream up
will get more outrageous. Soon, this will become one of your favorite
holiday activities. Don't forget to snap your annual photo, all dressed
in green, to include in your St. Patrick's Day Tradition Book.

For Valentine's Day
THE
TREE OF LOVE This is a great gift for Valentine's
Day. Buy a little potted plant, and ask people to write a special note. "I
love you Grandma because...", or "You're the best Mom because...". Roll
up these heartwarming notes, tie each one with a colorful ribbon, and
attach them to the tree. This will mean so much more then a bouquet of
flowers. What an easy, sweet way to express our emotions and leave behind
a symbolic reminder of love that will flourish over time with tender
loving care.
